2022 Nobel Prize for Chemistry goes to three scientists: Barry Sharpless, Morten Meldal & Carolyn Bertozzi

They have been honoured "for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry."

With this innovation, scientists can create new types of biomolecules and other materials to deliver drugs precisely to the specific point in the body that is ailing.

What is 'click chemistry': A process to click or join complicated molecules in an easy and fast way without creating unwanted byproducts. Barry Sharpless together with Morten Meldal has worked to develop this phenomenon. Whereas Bertozzi took the 'Click Chemistry' to another level by developing "Bioorthogonal" reactions that operate safely inside living organisms without disturbing their bodily processes and biochemistry.

Click Chemistry and "Bioorthogonal" Reactions both have applications in the field of medical science and pharmacy. With their help, we can specifically target ailing cells and tissues to cure many diseases such as cancer. It also helps in investigating cells and tracking biological processes that can help in further research and innovations.

This is the second chemistry Nobel for Barry Sharpless who had gotten it even in 2001 for his work on "chirally catalysed oxidation reactions". Four other scientists have won two Nobels: John Bardeen, Marie Curie, Linus Pauling and Fred Sanger.

Bertozzi is only the eighth woman to win the chemistry prize in Nobel history.

Tamil Nadu gets India's largest single-unit wind turbine generator

The 4.20 Mega Watt wind turbine generator, a single unit with the largest generation capacity in the nation, has been installed at Vadalivilai near Valliyoor in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu. India wants to produce 500 GW of energy by 2030 through renewable sources. The plan is to produce 300 GW with solar and the rest 200 GW with other renewable sources.

Speaking to a large crowd at his political rally, he said that the J&k will soon get five new degree colleges which are presently under construction. India to investigate Gambia Children deaths, and the role of an Indian Cough Syrup in it.

Earlier, WHO Director-General Tedros had told that the agency was investigating the role of Indian Cough Syrup in the deaths of children from acute kidney injuries. At least 66 children has died as per the latest report and the number may increase further. New Delhi-based cough syrup manufacturer Maiden Pharmaceuticals is the company under the lens.

India sends its first Naval training squadron to Kuwait

This First Naval Training Squadron sent to Kuwait comprise 3 ships namely INS Tir, Sujata and Coast Guard Ship Sarathi. These will operate in the Persian Gulf as part of their training deployment. The exercise is aimed at familiarizing our naval personnels with location and with military, maritime and socio-political linkages of India with Kuwait. India and Kuwait are celebrating the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year in 2022.
