DU admission 2022: Second round of seat allotment to come out this evening

Students who have already applied for the second round of seat allotment will then come to know which course and college they get. Students have the option to either freeze (stick to the seats allotted) or upgrade (move to a course they prefered more).

Nearly 60,000 seats have already been filled in the first round of admission itself. However, many of them have opted for an "upgrade." Once you are allotted an upgraded seat, your current admission gets automatically cancelled.

Second-Round Seat Allotment Schedule:

  • Students have to "accept" their allotted seat between 10 am on October 31 to 4:59 pm on November 1
  • Colleges will then verify and approve the applications they have accepted by 5 pm on November 2
  • Students will have to pay the admission fee of the given college by 4:59 pm on November 3

Government to constitute a Committee to address users' complaints about Social Media

The Centre has recently altered the IT Rules to facilitate the setting up of grievance appellate committees (GAC) for Social Media complaints. To be set up within 3 months, the committee will look into complaints by users of social media firms like Twitter, Facebook and other such platforms. Users' complaints such as the blocking of content or accounts by Social Media Platforms will now be adjudicated by the GAC.

Over 151 people killed in a stampede in South Korea, national mourning declared

South Korea has declared a period of national mourning after a stampede in a Halloween event crush-killed 151 people on the 29th of October. Many injured are still struggling for their lives and the death toll is very likely to increase in the coming hours. The unfortunate accident took place in a congested nightlife area in Seoul. The crowd was celebrating the first public Halloween in the country in 3 years as the Covid-restrictions on public gatherings were recently lifted by the government. The disaster is among the country's deadliest since a 2014 ferry sinking that killed 304 people, mainly high school students. Most of the victims are partygoing teenagers and adults - mostly women in their 20s.

India to start free trade agreement (FTA) talks with the Gulf Cooperation Council next month

If signed, the FTA agreement will massively increase our exports to these countries helping the economy and job generation in the country. To those unaware, FTA offers duty concessions on products and services we sell to/buy from that area. Currently, our bilateral trade value stands at 4.73 billion. Gulf Cooperation Council, GCC is a multilateral organization of six gulf countries namely Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. India has already signed, and implemented, a free trade agreement with the UAE in May.
