Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is widely regarded as one of the most educated and intellectually accomplished leaders in Indian history. His academic journey, marked by perseverance and global exposure, laid the foundation for his contributions as a social reformer, economist, jurist, and the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Coming from a socially disadvantaged background, Ambedkar's pursuit of education was not just personal ambition but a powerful tool for social change.

Early Education in India
Ambedkar began his schooling in Satara and later continued in Bombay (now Mumbai). Despite facing caste-based discrimination, he excelled academically. He completed his matriculation from Elphinstone High School, becoming one of the first individuals from his community to achieve this milestone. He then graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Bombay in 1912.
Higher Education Abroad
Ambedkar's academic brilliance earned him a scholarship from the Baroda State, enabling him to pursue higher studies abroad.
At Columbia University in the United States, he completed his Master's degree (M.A.) in Economics in 1915. His thesis focused on ancient Indian commerce. He later earned a Ph.D. in Economics in 1927, with his research centred on the evolution of provincial finance in British India.
He then moved to the United Kingdom to study at the London School of Economics (LSE), where he obtained a D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) in Economics. His work at LSE further strengthened his expertise in finance, economics, and public policy.
Legal Education
In addition to his academic achievements in economics, Ambedkar also pursued law. He enrolled at Gray's Inn, one of the four Inns of Court in London, and qualified as a Barrister-at-Law. This legal training played a crucial role in shaping his contributions to India's legal and constitutional framework.
