Kendriya Vidyalayas Soon To Have Five Working Days

Two Week Offs In Kendriya Vidyalayas
All the Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country may soon enjoy an extended weekend. Yes!! The authorities of KV's have been delaying over cutting their working days and making schooling a five-day-affair.

In a meeting held last week, head of Kendriya Vidyalayas Sangathan said that this is aimed at allowing students to "Pursue Self-Learning" and follow their passion and indulge in non-academic activities. The authorities felt that 5 day week would give "space" to those children who merely get an off on Sunday's besides the second Saturday of the month. But still, keeping them bound to the school routine all six days a week is detrimental to their natural growth of talent in various fields.

Many teachers acknowledge that such an arrangement would also reduce their work stress. A Principal of Mumbai Podar School- Avnita Bir said "It is possible for schools to follow a 5-day week and maintain academic rigour too. We have always followed such a work schedule and there has been no problem that we have faced. We do work more on a case-to-case basis when someone needs more attention".

She also pointed out that under their job profile, the KV's staffs have lot of paper work to do and she was not sure how teachers would manage that. After the implementation of RTE, working hours for teachers have been increased from six hours to seven-and-a-half hours. The issue of increased timings is before the court.

However, it is a happy news for all the students studying in KV's. But Teachers??? It's a tough time till court hears its decision.
