IIT Jodhpur Develops Technology to Ease Traffic congestion and Road Accidents

IIT Jodhpur has introduced innovative technology, the Novel MAC-based Authentication Scheme (NoMAS), designed by its computer science and engineering department. The technology aims not only to elevate vehicle security and intelligence but also to tackle the diverse challenges prevalent on Indian roads, including traffic congestion and accidents.

IIT Jodhpur Creates Tech for Road Safety

NoMAS has the potential to enhance road safety by facilitating a secure and real-time exchange of data among vehicles, covering road conditions, accidents, and traffic congestion. This information empowers drivers with timely insights, aiding them in making informed decisions and avoiding potential hazards, as explained by a professor involved in the technology's development.

The data collected and shared through the Internet of Vehicles network can undergo analysis to identify accident-prone areas, patterns of risky behavior, and areas requiring road improvements. This analytical approach enables authorities to take proactive measures to address these issues and enhance overall road safety.
NoMAS not only contributes to advancing road safety but also provides safeguards against vehicle theft and unauthorized usage. The technology effectively tackles issues related to data protection, communication overhead, and security vulnerabilities within the Internet of Vehicles, resulting in a substantial improvement in its security and efficiency.

The researchers at IIT-Jodhpur have additionally created a pioneering federated learning-based driver recommendation system designed for the next generation of transportation. This system assesses a driver's stress level through the analysis of their driving patterns. By understanding drivers' stress levels, the system can offer pertinent recommendations, ensuring journeys are safer and more comfortable. Debasis Das, an associate professor in the computer science and engineering department, emphasized the groundbreaking nature of this technology in enhancing both the security and efficiency of the Internet of Vehicles.

"With this technology, we have endeavored to tackle critical challenges in data protection, communication overhead, and security vulnerabilities," he stated, highlighting NoMAS's role in safeguarding vehicles from theft and unauthorized usage.
