Students Engage In Learning At Kothanur Scouts And Guides Camp

The Regional Scouts and Guides Camp at St. Joseph English High School brought together students from multiple schools for skill-building and teamwork activities. Participants engaged in training exercises, outdoor navigation, and emergency response sessions, culminating in a rewarding closing ceremony.

The St. Joseph English High in Kothan recently became the venue for an enriching-day Regional level Scouts and camp, spanning from 4 to October 6, 202. This event marked first instance of the school hosting a camp on its premises, signaling a significant. Participants included students St. Joseph English High School,othanur,itya National Public School,elahanka, Vailankanni Matricr Sec School, Hosur, Indian Public School,igan Nagar, bringing together a diverse group of scouts and guides.

The camp's opening was graced by presence of Principal Sr. Arokiainotha and Vice Sr. Arul Jency, who off the event with a flag hoisting ceremony This symbolic start set tone for the days of learning and adventure that lay ahead for the attendees.

As the unfolded, the scouts and guides underwent rigorous training under the tutelage of experienced leaders including Dr. Aravindh, the State Secretary, along with Miss Bhavya, Mr. Venkatesh, Mr. Vigneshwaran, Miss Kanishka, Mr. Pradeep, and Miss Usha. The first day focused on foundational scouting skills such as tying flag pole knots, understanding the roles and duties of patrol and troupe leaders, and mastering various types of claps. The emphasis was not only on the practical aspects of scouting but also on fostering teamwork and leadership among the participants.

The second day introduced a change in leadership and methodologies, challenging the participants to adapt and learn. The students embarked on a hiking expedition, where they received hands-on training in outdoor navigation techniques such as Morse code, semaphore signaling, and estimation methods including the inch to foot, triangulation, and Napoleon methods. This exposure to real-world scouting skills was complemented by educational visits to the Kothanur Police Station and Fire Station, where they observed demonstrations on fire safety and emergency response.

The final day of the camp was dedicated to perfecting the art of knotting, a crucial skill for pitching tents. Despite initial challenges, the scouts and guides eventually mastered the task, demonstrating their ability to erect temporary shelters with precision. The day also saw them engage in creative activities such as patrol corner decoration and the preparation of snacks without the use of conventional utensils, showcasing their resourcefulness.

The camp concluded on a celebratory note, with performances by the Scouts and Guides and insightful guidance from the dignitaries. The highlight of the closing ceremony was the recognition of the best students from each of the four schools, who were honored with medals and certificates for their exemplary performance throughout the camp.

This Regional level Scouts and Guides camp not only provided a platform for learning and personal growth but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among the participants. The successful execution of the camp underscores the importance of such initiatives in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.
