Common Admission Test Syllabus

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2026 Entrance Exam is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), with IIM Indore highly expected to act as the official organizing body.

The test serves as the mandatory screening channel for admission to Postgraduate Management Programs. The official organizing body is expected to release the CAT 2026 notification on July 26, 2026.

The Common Admission Test (CAT 2026) has been announced. The organizing institute does not officially release a syllabus on the CAT website. However, based on previous years' test patterns, candidates can refer to the compiled syllabus below for their CAT 2026 preparation.

CAT 2026- The questions asked in the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2026 are mostly based on core logic and middle school mathematics spanning Class 9 and Class 10 concepts. The core difference lies in the varying complexity and difficulty levels of the questions.

The CAT Exam aims to test candidates' skills in three structured sections: Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), and Quantitative Aptitude (QA). Questions are derived directly from these core segments.

1. Mathematics or Quantitative Section :-

Some of the core concepts in maths and quant subjects are:-

  • Percentages and its applications.
  • Ration and its applications.
  • Algebra.
  • Numbers and its applications.
  • Geometry and its applications.

2. English or Verbal Section.

Promiment topics in this section are as follows :-

  • Grammar.
  • Vocabulary.
  • Critical Reasoning (and its numerous applications).
  • Reading Comprehension.

3. Analytical Reasoning Section.

Important topics are under Analytical Reasoning are :-

  • Blood Relations.
  • Direction Sense.
  • Puzzles.
  • Arrangements.
  • Data Structures.
  • Series.
  • Coding - Decoding.
  • Clocks and Calenders.

4. Data Interpretation Section.

Problems related to organised and unorganised data are quite common in this section. Core topics are as follows :-

  • Table.
  • Bar.
  • Pie Charts.
  • Line Graphs etc.
